Re: bury vine

Mike,

I tend to agree, I have found that it is better to grow less plants and have
more time to devote to each one. This does lessen your odds in the case of a
catastrophic event as you have less back up plants.
I have seen good results burring the vines by digging a trench ahead of them
but waiting to back fill until the side vines reach about a foot long. I have
been thinning out some of the side vines where they seem the most crowded.
Large amount of water also seem to be helping better as I have been noticing a
lot more tap roots. I have Seven plants going but still want to drop down to
about Four.
Deciding which plants to cull is my biggest problem every year. I find myself
leaving the smaller plants anyway just for Halloween pumpkins.
