cut the secondary

Hi pumkinauts!

I have set my only pumpkin (please let it survive) on my only plant, and
it is now about 50lbs.

There is a secondary vine growing right out of the junction where the
main stem is.  The question I have is:

Should I cut and bury this secondary vine at the junction, or should I
let it grow? My concern is will the plant waste energy growing the
secondary versus growing the fruit, or does the secondary feed the
fruit?
