Greg:
Captan is a good fungicide but is not available in all areas. There are other
fungicides out there that work as well or better, and are rated for garden
vegetable use.
Captan is a poison and should not come in contact with the skin, nor should
the dust be breathed. I have a problem spraying it in a garden where table
vegetables grow.
Daconil, Ortho's brand of chlorothalonil is a safe fungicide that has worked
well for me here in FL. It is widely available and is safe to spray when used
as the label suggests. In fact, you can spray Daconil and pick vegetables the
same day.
Most growers don't use their AGs for eating purposes, but certainly after
reading the labels on both products, you would probably chose Daconil over
Captan for personal safety reasons.
