last year I grafted two plants together in three places one graft held for
a month and a half the other two cam apart in two and a half weeks I
think I should have buried ahead and behind the graft. this year on July 26
I think. I grafted two plants together in four places think I should have
maybe spread it out over 4 days. what I did was put down a garbage bag to
work on. then I cut the 2 vines 3 or 4 inches over lapping .working with
tools sterilized in a bleach solution .one of the cut vines should be a
larger in diameter than the other one. take a sterilized and rinsed drill
bit in a cordless drill. choose the bit size according to the large vine
id. drill the ridges out .I think this does three things. I t makes a wound
which will try to heel to the other half it gets rid of the ridges so it
will heal to the out side of other vine which is smooth and it also makes
the cells witch will try to join more similar. the next thing I do is with
the knife scrape the out side of the small dia vine this takes of the
unlike cells on the out side of the vine off. push the one vine in side
the other. put dirt on both sides of the splice but leave the splice
unburied until you know it takes the dirt will hold the graft straight. the
plant will make its own cellular glue. please only splice secondarys
together that you are cutting any way I tried adding vine with no success.
plan grafts away from pumpkins. last year the one graft was holding when I
pulled up the plant. I don't know how long or if this graft would last but
it is fun. I think I tried it first on ag's but don't know. if any one
grafts I would like to know results. there was a guy in Alaska who grafted
tomato potato together . AG's 's presented some problems because of
cellular structure. that's where I got the idea. the Alaska dude they
sell these plants now I hear. tomatoes above potatoes below the ground.
