Pumpkins need contant love and care. I believe having a few plants,
especially where the weather sucks is a must to get the true potential out
of it. Talk to it. make sure it is cool during the day. The best thing I
did this year was not listening to the advice to plant so I had a
germination on may 1st or so. I went with my gut knowing weather is hot
where I live and an early start was vital to getting my plant out well.
Next year I am going to start even earlier. I only had germination on april
15th. I had big maxes germinate on april 1st. Next year the AG's will
start on the 1st also. I am sure you all think I am crasy but the weather
early is optimum and I have a friend with cold storage for fruit. The temp
is 32 degree's. The pumpkin will not freeze but it will keep and not lose
much weight. I can't wait to try this out next year!!! The heat killed me
this year and with an extra 15 days of great growing I will be happy
