pgpga update
I updated the site ( http://www.pgpga.com ) a few days ago with some
info, but thought this list would love to hear of Tony Ciliberto's
season so far, what he is growing, how he is growing them, and his
pruning methods. I phoned Tony this evening, and he was in the middle of
his daughter's High school graduation party, but wanted to get this
story to you pumpkin gurus, and was more than happy to share it with his
fellow Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin Growers Association members, and the
rest of the pumpkin community.
He has a very unique method I thought on how to eliminate having to
shuck the seed coat from the new born plant, eliminating the possibility
of ripping off one of the cotyl leaves. It was a method he was given by
Len Stellpflug years ago, and he has used it ever since, with great
success.
While there, check out the rest of the group, I will have updates on
the Checkons, Marv Hicks, Patty Shaw, Dale Mellott, and others real
soon. It is getting exciting now, with some people seeing those beebee
sized pumpkins in the lead cluster of the main vines. I know I have one
coming in my Lloyd 935, and will be in the 9 ft range when it comes to
blossom... I must go take a cold shower now, just thinking about it gets
me all warm and fuzzy...
