FWD: Re: squash bugs
My ladybugs flew in yesterday. For those who weren't around last summer - "I didn't have any bugs." It took me half the summer to figure out that there's no such thing as a green ladybug. I'm having trouble getting rid of them though, since most of my neighbors are organic, pesticide free gardeners (you know, like in those "square-foot gardening" shows that are on T.V. Not that I have anything against "natural," after all I am a survivor of the 60's, but I wouldn't mind their bugs staying in their yards !!!
While I'm here, I'll tell you what I'm growing. I finally gave up agonizing over my seed inventory, I just couldn't decide what to plant. Too many choices. So here's what I went with:
991 Hunt (of course). It's my strongest, biggest plant.
862 VanIderstine.
859 Mombert
772 Crueziger,A.
720 Hester
I started a month earlier this year, but it's been so cold I probably could have waited. They just don't seem to like the cold and the wind. Weatherman says "hot" tomorrow - we'll see.
This will be my last year growing 5 plants. I only have room for one plant in my yard, and the other four are in my neighbor's yard. Well - the neighbor died and the kids will be selling the house and property next year. Sooooo this has to be the year I grow a BIG one. I'll be happy with 500 lbs. I'm easy, no matter what my family says !
And, finally, I've noticed that not many people are talking about what seeds they're growing. Maybe the other pumpkin list could do a survey about "who planted what." You know - You show me yours and I'll show you mine?
Well, anyway, good luck with the bug problems, everyone.

P.S. Is anyone growing the Pacilli seed this year? You can e-mail me privately if you don't want anyone to know. Also, if anyone still has one of the seeds, I'd love to trade some seeds for it.
