bug love

Strange bug activity in the patch this year:

1. Far more cucumber beetles this year than last and almost everyone I
find is in a pair, in coitus or, as Shakespeare put it, making the
two-backed beast. With all this bug love around, I'm afraid that they
will be egg laying. Does anyone know of a URL where I can see what cuc
beetle eggs look like?

2. This year, the stink bugs seem different than last. Last year they
were small 1/4" bugs that hopped from leaf to leaf. This year, they are
much larger (1/2") and tend to fly rather than hop and when they fly,
there is a bright orange spot on their butt (which makes them easy to
follow and kill). I know that they are stink bugs because... well
because they stink when you squish them. Has anyone else noticed a
change is these guys?

Someone on this list suggested that I plant radishes in my patch to
deter these bugs. Well my plant is surrounded by radishes, and the
edges of my entire 35" x 10" garden are lined with radishes. We now
have literally hundreds of radishes and lots of bugs. Anyone for a
radish sandwich?
