Re: Pumpkins in pots

A couple of things...

Yah, pruning the flowers off the plant until the vines are nice and long is what you need to do - it won't hurt the plant any, but that brings me to asking a couple of questions myself, if you or anyone else know the answer:

I don't have much space left in my yard and was considering pots for my Atlantic Giants, but I read that you are supposed to let the vines get to be about ten feet long before you pollinate the female flower to grow a decent sized pumpkin. I also read that upon reaching this distance, the vine at ten feet is supposed to be buried with some soil to produce a new root system directly beside the pumpkin that you are trying to grow. Does this mean that if you want an Atlantic Giant, it can't be planted in a pot? Please let me know if you have had success with pots for large pumpkins or whether is does basically have to be in a pumpkin patch. Thanks for your time,

Mike Novak
