In 1997 I had my first pollinated pumpkin mature way too early so I
pollinated another on August 16 and ended up with the 397.

In 1998 I could not get a successful pollination until July 25th. I ended up
with a 745 pounder.  http://pgpga.com/hicks745.jpg

Early pollination is preferred by all but by no means should anyone throw in
the towel if they are not setting fruit by the first week of July. Probably
not a world record but a very respectable pumpkin is not out of the question.
