Hi All, Sorry for yet more ignorance, but what are the 876.5 Lloyd, 788, Wentzell, etc.? Are these types of Pumpkins? I'm also sorry to hear about your damage. I hope that the rest of the season is better for you. My seeds haven't even sprouted and I would be devastated if something happened to them. Sandi ----- Original Message ----- From: Casey N. Whats the damage report from all the Wisconsin growers??? HOly cow, the storms came through like a freight train here. There are leaves and side vines snapped off everywhere on the plants in the main patch, the 825 shy, 876.5 lloyd, and 788 Wentzell. The 825 shymanski got it the worse. Most of the tall leaves were snapped and some of the side vines that did not fall over yet were snapped too. The 788 Wentzell's tall leaves were broken off too, they were some nice leaves. The 876.5 Seemed to get through with the least amount of damage. There are holes in the leaves from hail on every plant, but there is no visible damage to the main vine on any plant, which is good.
The new patch seems to be ok too. The 616 corkum and 655 Johnson got through the storms with just some holes in the leaves.....same with the 772 creuziger. I thought the 616 would have been worst hit, seems most vulnerable, but it was the least affected. The 535 Lloyd had a accident though. When i took off the cold frames, i just lifted them up and set them to the side of the plants, well the one next to the 535 (was about 3-4 feet away) was blown back on top of the 535 and forced the main vine, that was just about to vine, to fall to the ground. Amazingly i could not find any kinks or tears in the main vine and seems to be ok. The 535's biggest leaf was snapped off also, and some holes in the leaves. My 762 plant had a leaf snapped right off and the main vine was uprooted(it had some taproots in the ground already), but it seems fine. Other than that, i think the main patch the holds the trifecta (825, 876.5, and 788) was underwater for a short period of time....plenty of water! The new patch is showing it's not to well soaking water in ability and there is a huge puddle in the NW corner of the patch. no pumpkins are there, the 616 is in the NE corner.
that was some crazy weather. We have a pine tree that was uprooted and fell onto our satallite dish, so now we don't have cable at the moment. We were actually under a tornado warning last night, but the heavier damage was done to just to our north west, about 10-12 miles or so away...THank GOODnesS!! There are trees down and telephone poles snapped in half in that area (Plover, WI).
