CT update Alan Reynolds

List,
   Here is my latest info,

544 Wallace (946 Geerts X 801 Stelts) plant still leads in size. Picked one
female forming within the first 4' of main vine. First male flowers opened on
this plant last Thursday. Main vine no more than 6.' Nice plant.

805 Pukos (1092 Burke X 723 Bobier) Great plant, but most sensitive to sun
damage. I picked off 4 female flowers today. All were in 4' of base. Hated to
do it but can't live with 4 feet. Real nice plant.

801 Stelts - Biggest leaves of all my plants this year. Much better looking
than my 801 from last year. Looks like it might have what it takes. Also
showing a female early and to close to base.

705 Stelts - Hard to tell it from the 801. Leaves are almost as big. Very
good looking plant.

483 Lanterman - loser- Flat vined and has not split into 2 mains. Woodchuck
had its way with it. Looking like a pitiful plant. Would pull it but using it
for the Woodchuck as a decoy plant. My 801 is right next to it.

846 Cali - Maybe another loser. Flat vined for 2' then split into a snake
tongued main vine. Also picked a female on this one at 4'. This plant a
little smaller than the rest. Expected more from the 846.

600 est. Reynolds - GREAT PLANT. Has a pumpkin on it at est. weight of 589
lbs!!!
Pol. only 18 days ago. I WISH! OK, its my seed and I get a little carried
away. Now for the real deal on this plant. Doing OK. does have a female
within 4' of base. Will pick it. Hoping it has maintained the genes from the
mother plant (567.4 Wallace) needed almost no pruning, had a very long stem
to the pumpkins, no kidding about a foot long. great Orange color. Has the
801 Stelts as its Papa.

First year that I've had so many female flowers so close to the base of
plant. Don't no why but I suspect it has something to do with age. My plants
are old enough but lost a lot of vine growth from the almost two weeks of
cold wet weather with no sun that we had here in the East a few weeks back.
Hoping I'm not making a mistake by picking all the females.
Cuke beetles have been the most I've seen. There were so many in the patch
before I sprayed with 7 they were bumping into me as I walked the patch. Have
killed a dozen or so Squash bugs. This is a bad sign. It's very early for me
to see them. Tried other products this year that just did not get them under
control. 7 worked over night. Still have one Woodchuck to catch. That's my
biggest threat now.
