Re: Killing Borers

Brad,

Thanks for the advice. I've survived the borers in past seasons, but it's so much work going the search and destroy route. Besides it's much more fun to walk the patch and see their dead little bodies everywhere. Warrior is out this year since I don't have a license. Do you know where I might be able to purchase Scimitar? I have one other lead which might work, but it requires a test. I was told (and the product label claims) that Bug-B-Gone with Esfenvalerate (by ortho) is effective against the dreaded SVB. Would it be possible for you to perform one of your famous experiments for the pumpkin world? It's easy to find and much cheaper than the alternatives.

Greg,
You need to get Scimitar CS or Warrior T, active ingredient (
Lambda Cyhalothrin), for your plants VERY soon or your season is going to be
OVER!!  Sevin will work marginally at best and only if applied frequently and
heavily. I lost my plants two straight years trying to use sevin.  Every time
it rains or you water overhead, you are going to have to reapply.  This is
not the case with Warrior or Scimitar.  They are still at 90% strength after
a 1 inch rain.  Warrior and Scimitar are just as safe if not safer than
Sevin.  Read about them at

Hope this helps,
