And here I thought benificial nematodes were only usefull for killing leafminor on birch trees. Good to know.

Insect parasitic nematodes are 100% effective, and live within the plant stem cavity.  They quickly kill any crawling insect that enters the vine, and there is no need to reapply when it rains.

The best part is, you won't kill any honeybees, poison your drinking water or harm your children's central nervous system.

I tried these last year and had 100% effectiveness.  I slit open every single vine to see if there was any damage or borers at the end of the season, and found absolutely none.

You can get instructions from organic garden suppliers.  Essentially, you inject a water solution containing nematodes into the vine approximately every foot.

For sure, I had the buggers try to invade my plants because I saw the adult moths flying around my patch for several weeks last year.

If there is enough interest, I would be willing to publish a short primer on the subject.
