I tried the environmental method that you have described in 1992. Injected beneficial Nematodes every foot. I repeated the injections two weeks later with a second shipment sense you are suppose to use them right away. I had enough borers to fill a years worth of nightmares. I think I spent around $70.00 for the Nematodes in 92'. Tried again in 1999 with $140.00 worth of Nematodes. I thought I had bought a bum batch of Nematodes in 92 or just needed to use more. The same thing happened, Totally filled with vine borers. I bought my Nematodes from Gardens Alive in 92' and from The Insect store in 99'.
I did it the old fashioned way last year and probably used a half gallon of Seven concentrate for the whole season, only one borer in a side vine.
Where did you buy the Nematodes that worked for you and how much $ did you spend? I will remain opened minded but my sprayer will probably have a mind of it's own and fill itself with Warrior-T

Insect parasitic nematodes are 100% effective, and live within the plant stem cavity. They quickly kill any crawling insect that enters the vine, and there is no need to reapply when it rains.
The best part is, you won't kill any honeybees, poison your drinking water or harm your children's central nervous system.
I tried these last year and had 100% effectiveness. I slit open every single vine to see if there was any damage or borers at the end of the season, and found absolutely none.
You can get instructions from organic garden suppliers. Essentially, you inject a water solution containing nematodes into the vine approximately every foot.
For sure, I had the buggers try to invade my plants because I saw the adult moths flying around my patch for several weeks last year.
If there is enough interest, I would be willing to publish a short primer on the subject.

Greg,
You need to get Scimitar CS or Warrior T, active ingredient (
Lambda Cyhalothrin), for your plants VERY soon or your season is going to be
OVER!! Sevin will work marginally at best and only if applied frequently and
heavily. I lost my plants two straight years trying to use sevin. Every time
it rains or you water overhead, you are going to have to reapply. This is
not the case with Warrior or Scimitar. They are still at 90% strength after
a 1 inch rain. Warrior and Scimitar are just as safe if not safer than
Sevin. Read about them at

Hope this helps,
