I use sand. As the pumpkins{Squash} grow, I just keep adding more.

What do most of you good people out there place under your fruit while it is growing? Last year I didnt place anything under mine, just let them grow right on the soil in the patch and had good results but I know I should be using something under the fruit to protect it. I was thinking mabye a 4x4 piece of plywood would work o.k
