Re:Ground hog devastation

I found a fairly interesting page on gopher, mole,
and groundhog/woodchuck control.

www.bugspray.net

Click on the links for gopher control, mole control,
and groundhog or woodchuck control. (They classify
the groundhog and woodchuck as "one and the same".)

There are some interesting differences between the
gopher and the mole. I can see that it would be
important to determine which you have, to be able
to pick the most effective control. Moles seem to be
particularly troublesome. Moles are smaller, and
flooding them out doesn't seem to work.

I now believe I have gophers. My attempt at flooding
has been met with some success. And I have seen one of
them, whose description fits that of a gopher.

Someone mentioned using a buried fence... I don't
want to be stick in the mud, but keep in mind that
if you have moles, they likely can slip right through
it. For example, a typical mouse can compress its
body down to the diameter of a pencil to gain entrance
to your home. The buried fence idea sounds fairly
expensive and extremely labor intensive. Of course,
you'd want to make sure it will work. Just a thought.

Enjoy, Cliff in Idaho
