Protecting the stem

>

I'm new, and I had a similar circumstance to start with; the poor thing had been in a peat pot so long, it had literally fallen over and was laying over three other pots. So when I planted it, I made the hill extra big and buried it up to it's leaves. No stem visible for the sun to dry out. So far as I know it seems to have worked, at least the plant is growing fine for now.
