Re: color ruling

Hey folks-
Would it be "against" the "RULES" to add orange tint to your water during the growing season? I personally like the deep & darker orange color, so last season, when my biggest one started out so pale, I actually added one dose( 5 gals.) of dark orange food-colored water on my mound. About a week later, I did notice a lot of orange streaking around the stem of the fruit (on the pumpkin flesh) I cannot say how much this affected the overall color & the streaked look did fade by harvest time. (My fruit turned out a nice pale orange-) I wasn't in competion last season, but anyone care to comment??

What we really wanted was a set of rules that is conformed to throughout the pumpkin growing community. I hope we have that now and with luck there will be fewer disgruntled growers come this fall. If we don't like the GPC rules then we are free to take our pumpkins to an independent weighoff where the rules are more to our liking. I say lets give it a chance and see what happens.
As for me I will continue to try to grow the
ORANGE pumpkin, to heck with the green gray whatever you want to call them.
