Hi looks like you have a good plan going there. Last year I mulched heavily with straw and it worked great !!! I buried my vines deep in the soil so it didn't matter about covering over them I left about two feet around the stump, so that there was nothing touching it. you want to be able to inspect the trunk and keep the bugs away. I would defiantly mulch and put on about 4 to 6 inches deep you will save your self allot of work !!! Take care and hope you have a wonderful season !!!!
