Re: Another pumpkin newbie

Tracy,

Once you start to see that first true leaf, that is the best time to get them in
the garden............. provided that conditions are good. If it is too cold, the cold
will slow them way down. It may be better to wait and transplant them to larger
pots......... of course this is not ideal. The best thing might be to set them out
but give them some good "greenhouse" type protection, and cover them at
night if it gets cold.

Regards, Cliff

Hi everyone--just want to say how much I enjoy reading your posts-you pumpkin
growers have your own unique sense of humor I see :) Anyway, I live in upstate
NY and as misery loves company, am glad to read that even Californians are
dealing with crazy, wet weather but persevere none the less!

I still have my plants inside because it has been cold, windy and rainy for
what seems like a month. I planted 15 seeds and 7 have come up. I'm trying to
give most of them away but of course want to keep the best ones for myself :)
Is bigger better in this case? Even though they were all planted at the same
time, there's a significant difference in their growth rates. Some are puny,
some are starting to grow a third leaf.

I started my seeds about 2 weeks ago in seed starting soil after I coated them
in fungicide, which I read somewhere was a good idea. I've been bottom
watering them, letting them soak up water through the peat pots they're in.

Anyway, all advice is welcome!

Tracy
