Mike, You should definitely have a few feet of vine on either side of your
fruit left exposed so it can rise with fruit growth. You might also want to
direct your vine away from the new fruit at about 45*, this will lessen stem
stress as your baby grows. Do NOT mess with the baby pumpkin...you will
only break it off. After it has grown a bit, you can re-position it little
by little to get it set how you want. Most growers try to set them
basically parallel to the ground (stem to Blossom). But don't worry about
it until the fruit is about the size of a basketball.

Subject: Burying vines.
Hi Growers-
I've been buring my vines as advised but am now getting ready to "set" a
pumpkin or two. So my question is how far on either side of the pumpkin
should. or can the vine be buried? Can the pumpkin be moved while it is
small(tipped so that the top of the pumpkin is close to the ground) so
that the vine stays close to the ground and thus be buried closer to the
fruit?
Or should there be several feet on either side of the pumpkin that should
not be buried so that it can move as the fruit grows?
Thanks
MT Mike
