No male flowers is as bad as no females - just doesn't work. 
The females are only receptive for three or four hours after
opening.....  If you don't have a friend with some plants, you
just have to wait for the next females.  Hopefully, some males
will show up.

I don't think you have to worry about crossing with the smaller
pumpkins but you should protect and hand pollinate your female
flowers when the males show up to the party.
