Medusa Does a Double Take

Last year I grew a Baby Beluga (933 Zunino) off a plant which
started as a double main and then went flat vine at about 6
feet. This is one reason double vines are feared - they often
turn to flat vines. I cut off the main tip at six feet and
then grew the strongest secondary as a main vine.

This year I have no choice as both plants on one mound have
multiple personalities. Medusa (1230 Daletas) had a double
main but was throwing single secondaries. The backup plant,
Little David (1016 Daletas) had a single main throwing double
secondaries.

Cold hearted Medusa won the turf war. I didn't wait to see if
the main would straighten out. I cut off the main tip at the
fifth leaf junction and soon had a hand-full of slithering
snake secondaries. I've now winnowed these down to two. She's
ugly as sin and a cold-hearted bitch, but we will soon see how
well she throws her weight around.....

On my other mound is gorgeous Lilu (1048 Companion). This is
the most perfect plant I have ever seen and could be the most
perfect plant in the entire universe. I've noticed how even the
stars have lined up to mark her position on the planet. We
finally had a few warm days and Lilu almost doubled in size in
three days. She went from covering 32 square feet to 52 square
feet in 72 hours!

My neighbors have given up on me and shake their heads when
they pass by. They see me covering my eyes when I approach the
evil Medusa and then talking sweetly to Lilu as I woo her with
offerings of compost.... Of course they don't notice the stone
squirrels and dogs littering my yard or the sun smiling as he
gently strokes Lilu. They know nothing of the magical things
in my patch and think I've lost it....

I've started a cam to chronicle Lilu's growth - you can watch
her grow at:

Hit the previous button to see Lilu grow. I will try to update
this page every few days....
