Thank you all for your insight. I understand the concern for a close-in big
boy pulling up Mama, I guess I thought you could turn the pumpkin downward so
it would create less pull. The mo' better leaf concept makes a lot of sense,

I have a spot in the "ordinary vegetable" garden that opened up so I dropped
in a back-up baby.
There is no more than 10 feet by 10 feet of love to give. The babe is off to
one side and I was thinking about letting the mains go as far as they could
and cross each other as they double back.
Any advice for an underprivileged pumpkin with a good heart?

In addition to what Kathie mentioned, the leaves die off sooner near the
stump due to age.
The farther the pumpkin is set out on the vine, the longer the leaves
will be around to help supply energy and food.
