Where Have All the Boys Gone?

Apparently, I have again offended the pumpkin gods with one of
my many excesses. The gorgeous and utterly perfect Lilu (1048
Companion) doesn't have one viable male flower on the entire
plant.

The male buds are all turning yellow and failing to develop.
However, a female ten feet out on the main vine appears to have
developed in a perfectly normal fashion and opened to this
morning's sun with four hungry and throbbing lobes and an
elegant and looong stem.

I've heard of fertilizer problems causing flowers to abort but
I don't understand this. The evil Medusa (1230 Daletas) lurks
not 6 feet away and is pumping out large, slithering males
which hiss and weave and just want to party. Both plants have
been fertilized exactly the same......

Yet another pumpkin puzzle to sort out. Maybe the Pumpkin Gods
are just pulling my chain for a cheap laugh.

Anybody with any theories, I'd like to hear them. I'm afraid
that the females may be flowering to get my hopes up....
and they will abort also - How can my perfect and lovely
princess be so wicked?

I'm still updating the pumpkin cam every few days. For a peek
at the impetuous Lilu go to:
