Re: shade cloth on sides or just top?

We use 4 fence stakes per plant and clamp the shade cloth so that it shades the growing end of the plant. This is an easily moveable solution as the plant grows.

Once we select a pumpkin, it gets its own cabaqa made similarly but fully enclosed.

One person I know actually builds a little cabana for each of his pumpkins, using a tarp and stakes, leaving the shelter open on the north. He also
erects netting over his vines to protect against stray hailstorms.

Anything goes when you're trying to be a Lord of the Gourd.

It's about 100+ for the next 2 months here. I haven't bought shade cloth yet. Should I get enough to put it on the sides (East and West) of patch too or just the top? The height of shadecloth canopy will be about 6 feet above
ground.
