This sounds like a fungus I encountered last year. The fungus was
bright yellow and was actually slimey. It remained confined to my
flower beds which had just recieved a heavy layer of shredded bark
mulch. As I remember, it was only in the spring and confined to wet
weather timeframes. It went away once the weather dried out.
Pumpkin Status: The direct start method with the buried heating cable
really worked well. The vine is about 3 feet long and looks healthy.
I culled from 3 plants down to 1 this weekend since the "pumkin
volcano" was to crowded. With the recent wet weather here in central
PA, I make sure my 7 year old stays away from the plant lest he get
consumed by green beast.

Not really pumpkin related...
There's this yellow substance that keeps showing up in the yard. It's
the
color of scrambled egg. This is going to sound sick...but it looks
like
some kind of animal vomit. It appears in a variety of places. It's
not
coming up out of the ground. If this is an animal...it does this at
night
for me to find the next morning. When it dries...it darkens in color
and
has a gritty texture. I'm clueless. The thing that gets me the most
is the
intensity of the color yellow. If this is an animal...what would it
be
eating to have something this color come up or out?
Thanks!
