To Cut or Not to Cut!

Hi Everyone,

I need some help on this one!

My Greer 1006 has continued to rocket a long. Start date was May 6th
transplant date was May 12.

The vine as of this evening is 40" long with 14 leafs, 5 of which are fully
developed at 15" to 16" across.

The 3rd leaf from the crown (approximately 5") from where the main vine
enters the ground, has developed a 1/4" crack or tear below the leaf axle
at the main vine. I must assume this is from the wind and subsequent
stress. Unfortunately it is the main vine which the crack is affecting. It
has not split through into the main vine.

I have covered it with a paste of captan.

I hate to start removing leafs at this very early stage but would it be
advised to lop it off to prevent any further damage?

Secondly, when you cut should you cut as close to the main vine as possible
or leave some of the leaf stem extending?
