Crispy(dead) New Leaves

Well it's full blow pumpkin season. I need more backyard. I
like to reference my small track home yard just to encourage every one
to at least get 1 plant growing. I have 3 Plants. It's still not too
late. I started 1 plant last year about 6-1-97
and got a nice size Jack-O-Lantern for
Halloween.
               Current Challenge:

My new leaves have crispy edges.
I guess you can call them dead edges They are
dark green and crisp.Possible factors;10 days ago I loaded a lot of
K-Mart steer manure
over and around the vines. The result seemed to be increased growth and
of course GREEN GREEN GREEN.
I've used mild insecticide but applied a lot it.
             Simply put "Help". The plants
otherwise are doing great. Now I am worried. Is there a diagosis out
there?
I would appreciate all input.
.....if you're not the lead dog the view's the same.
