Bernard Lavery who had a wold record of 710 lbs for an AG suggests that the minimum area needed for an AG is 5 m x 2.5 m (16 ft x 8 ft) and that additional space will not produce a bigger fruit. (perhaps he experimented). He suggests trimming the main and secondary vines as they get to the edge of the growing area. I notice some people in the group disagree with this. What is the general opinion - has anyone done any studies on this? Peter Cundall a local gardening television personality suggests that pinching out the growing tips of a pumpkin's main vine after a few meters will stimulate production of side runners and female flowers which are more prolific on the secondary vines. Could we have some comment on this please? Stewart, ACT Land of Oz
