What a difference a year makes. On this day last year I posted an
update to the pumpkin list. My garden had just been hailed on and the
plants were shredded. My giant squash plant had a vine 2.5 feet long
and the pumpkin 1.5 feet long.
This year I put up a shelter to protect against wind and hail, but there
has not been a hailstorm yet. My main plant has a 12 foot vine and the
secondarys are up to 10 feet across near the base of the plant. There
are a lot of male flowers but none have bloomed yet.
Even with my dismal start last year the plants recovered and I still
managed a 341 squash and a 200 pumpkin. I hope to do much better this
year.
