Direct Start Update 6/2/98


George Brooks
N. Tewksbury, MA about 25 miles Northwest of Boston in the Merrimack River
Valley.

Planted 4/13/98 in prepared mounds, method used is the Direct Start Method
combined with the Compost Feeding Method listed on Dan’s Page with pictures.

As I reported earlier the plants survived 5 severe T'sm's and one with hail up
 to nickel size.  Hail put 0 - 3 hits per leaf with no leaves knocked down or
 stem damage.

AG-480-97-GB a AG-553-92-GB child crossed  with  AG-717-91-MM, (Mike
 MacDonald) and AG-798-95-PNZ, (Zehr).

Vine Length 8' 0" (Bright Yellow), Largest Leaf 18".  Vine growing on an
 average of   4 5/8" per day.  First female flower starting to form @ 6' 8".
 Leaves have a lot of that genetic yellow spots.


Greer 1006

Vine Length 9' 8" (Dark Green), Largest Leaf 20".  Vine growing on an average
 of 6 1/2" per day.  First female flower starting to form @ 8' 2".   First Male
 flower opened today.  A perfect looking plant.

Both plants are running 10-14 days ahead of last year.  Average High
 Temperature during the past eight days was 80.
