Re: my 977

Pumpkineers,
Here is my update, as I attempt to become the 1998 version of Chris
Andersen(nothing personal POV!!) . I too grew a 70 pounder last year,
and am going to make the leap to Chrisdom soon. (Confidence can be very
sexy, dont you think?.. quote Jack Palance).
	Plants are as follows..
1. Andersen 977 - Dead. I expected this plant to be my measuring stick
for other pumpkins, and low and behold, the marker I used to identify
the plant is now a measuring stick.. Who would have thunk it? .. (Sorry
Chris, the death of this plant is my fault, not the seed genetics.. I
planted in too wet of conditions.. Got nervous with it inside, so I
tried transpanting it in much to wet of a soil condition.. )

2. Andersen 815 - On the brighter side of things Chris, I started this
bad boy, and got it and the next plant(#3) out in the ground on May 1st,
and put them in a cloche. After a month of great growing conditions, my
vines are running out about 6 feet, and are a very thick vine at that.
Everything is peachy with this plant, as leaves are nearing 20 inches
across..

3. Holland 897 - Exactly the same growth rate, but not as thick of a
vine as the 815. My problem with these two pumpkin plants, is that they
are only 2 feet away from each other.. IS IT totally necessary to cull
one plant, or can I grow a pumpkin off each plant, and just keep the
fertilizer to them, seeings how I am going to bury my vines anyways,
promoting root grwoth individually in each plant? Wondering

4.Holland 649 - This plant, I thought was gone, and I had almost forgot
about it. It went in with the 977, and was pronounced dead on the scene
and forgotten.. After a week or so of walking past it, I noticed the
seed leaves were still a hint of green, and there was a eentsy weensty
little leaf starting.. Signs of life? Yes!! It will never realize its
ful;l potential, but it will hopefully make it to give me a few male
flowers..
