Re: Vine Borers

Barb,

What you are refering to is called Juglone, it is toxin produced typically
by Black Walnut Trees and is highly toxic to other plants. I do not know if
Euc. Trees produce juglone, no data on Eucs and juglone. As a general rule
of thumb if nothing grows under a tree, not even weeds, it most likely
produces a toxic substance. There is not much that grows under Eucs.!
However in the chip state with no tree continuing to produce camphor or
whatever it might be that is toxic, the Euc wood chip may just repel vine
borers and not kill the plant. You could be on he cusp of solving the worlds
vine borer problems. Seriously, perhaps someone with a plant to spare could
try mulching with Euc chip and see if they have a vine borer problem with
this individual plant with no pesticide sprayed. Think about it, if it
worked.
