I am a big one on tradition too.. In my home town they had the Danbury Fair
for over 100 years and they took it down to make a shopping mall. I remember
the giant (200 pounds) pumpkins in the Big Top. Things do change and the
Pumpkin World is no exception. For the most part I think the changes are
bigger and better. Nutree and Dixon have taken a different road and I wish
them well. If you grow a 1,500 pounder this year, maybe we will fly you to the
East Coast and tangle with me Barbi, Zoo Doo and Marv. The GPC, WPC and IPA
winners of the past have all had some enormous paydays, trips , etc....this
will not change. Things are getting bigger and better all the time. Different
yes. Not all the heavy hitters in the pumpkin world are growers....some are
sponsors.....stay tuned. My memories of the Danbury Fair are still there, but
new memories are being made at the great Fairs that we attend now. As far as
dreams of thousand pounders.....that would just drive me crazy. I like to
dream of a personal best. I have had 5 personal bests in 15 years...that feels
good too.Lets see, an 800 pounder has a nice ring to it!! There I go dreaming
again.
