I have developed a pretty sensible icing method, let me discribe it.
I use the gallon milk jugs frozen with water ice,( not milk!) I have
been placing one gallon next to the pollenated female. I use a couple of
bamboo sticks, the narrow type, 18 inches, and build a Tee Pee like
frame around the female. I take a towel, white preferably, and wrap it
around the gallon and bamboo structure, making a tee pee around the
female. You can usually tuck it in under the gallon for it is weighty. I
leave an opening at the top like a volcanoe. I then water down the
toweling good and shade it with a table or something opaque. I figure
the evaporation will help in the cooling as well as the ice jug. Seems
to be working, at least in bring the temps down. Now fruit set is
another thing. Hackneys milk carton icehouse seems impossible with the
large leaves and stems to deal with. Andersons icehouse with the
styrofoam cup over the female and loose ice around seems hard to manage
with the loose ice being difficult to keep off the vine and just around
the cup. With the closed cup you really have to be around the whole day
incase the ice melts and you risk runaway temps. You can easily refreeze
the jugs and not have to buy alot of ice. You will need a lot of freezer
space though. Anyway, that's ZOO DOO's Icehouse
