Brad,
I thought someone with more experience may answer this but if they
haven't heres my plan for this year. I will let the secondaries grow to
the boundaries of my patch then cut and bury the ends. No more than 20
feet. Some will have to be shorter to keep them from getting mixed up
with my other plant. If I have a fruit set on a secondary I will try to
give it at least 8' to 12' of vine past the fruit. All tertiaries will
be cut as soon as they form. I think a smaller cut gives a small portal
for entry of disease organisms. I'm growing 2 plants in 1200 sq. ft.
30' X 40'. I will prune them in a christmas tree shape and have them
growing diagonally toward each other from the southwest and northeast
ends of the patch so the main vines should parallel each other. So far
the plan is working out OK but as the secondaries get longer I will have
my hands full keeping them from growing into each other. I hope this
helps you.
