Pumpkin Time?

I have been watching to see how many pumpkins each person has in. My question
is this. Do you have a better chance at a really big pumpkin if you have 8
plants or two plants all other things being equal except daily attention? If
you have two you can spend 4 times as much time on them. Is care more
important than "luck?" I have heard that Tony Ciliberto, who usually grows
four plants, this year only has two. In his case it may have to do with
growing area. I also have heard that some really big pumpkins have grown on
essentially unattended plants. In other words, does work really pay off or is
it a small factor?
