[Fwd: South Dakota & Which to cull?]

Sorry to be a pest with this re-post, but I'm probably going to have to
make the cull tomorrow 6/28/98 -- so anyone who has time to give me your
thoughts would be appreciated as so far no one has -- thanks!

Here's an update from South Dakota, with a question -- which one plant
in each of two hills to cull?

Hill 1

LaRue 916
Double main vine about 7-8 feet long. No female blossoms so far. Huge
leaves. A few leaves have some yellow spots I thought might be virus,
but almost none of the newer leaves have them.

Emmons 854
Was huge seed. Vine trained 180 degrees around until running south.
Vine about 10 feet long. Male and female blossoms present.

Hill 2

Holland 903
Vine about 10 feet long. Surprise early pumpkin set today! -- so
obviously has female and male blossoms, but who is the father? But main
vine rather thin and slightly kinked and cracked where it trails off my
raised bed.

Andersen 977
Vine about 10 feet long. Leaves a bit lighter shade of green. Seems to
have more vine borers moth attracting properties. No female blossom
buds yet.

All plants have exploded in growth the past few days with finally some
sun and warm weather. The first three weeks of June cold and wet and
lots of thunderstorms and wind.

I had thought I'd keep the Andersen 977 and the Larue 916 at first, but
now these are the two vines with no female blossom buds, so I'm really
muddled. I'd love to hear if anyone can tell me which two plants to
keep and suggest why too. Thanks!
