Brad:
May I add one caveat? Combination products such as the one you described sound
wonderful! However, they are not available here in FL, and perhaps in other
states. Captan is not to be used as a foliar spray, only for the soil before
sowing. It is very popular with landscapers here, and it has saved a few trees
in my yard. It is not approved for food crops
A note to those who cannot find products that are discussed on this
list....the reason is that one of the ingredients is not approved for use as
the label suggests. Don't take it out on the retailer! Instead, call the
university coop extension or the state Ag office for more info on the best
alternatives in your area. I have found the feed and seed farm stores to be
the best sources of info, as are the nurserymen at a quality nursery.
Captan is an effective fungicide, but here's another use for Captan that I
learned from my vet.....it is an excellent fungicide rinse for large, adult
dogs who contract fungus on their skin.....it cleared up a problem case of
fungus on one of my show dogs in no time flat. While the package clearly
states not to have it come in contact with your skin, evidently a weak
solution of the powder dissolved in lukewarm water and dumped over their hides
does the trick for dogs. Check with your vet before you proceed with this
treatment, please.
Interesting that Captan is made by the Ortho/Chevron company in the
SanFrancisco Bay area (Richmond) but is not available for sale in CA? Probably
because of the persistence.
