Vine splits

I went out this morning to check my  plants and noticed three splits in my main vine. What can cause this it has been very hot 95+. We have not had any windy conditions. I looked at it last night and it was fine. Would I be wasting my time trying to grow a large pumpkin on this plant. Sure would appreciate any help anyone could give me
