Update from the Central Coast in California

Hi everyone,

You know I had such a hard time trying to decide whether to plant my seed
directly into the ground or to germinate them. Last year I just totally
ruined the nice seeds that John sent me trying to learn to germinate them and
did not want that to happen to my Kuhn seeds, so on Sunday, May 16th, 1999 I
went ahead and took the plunge and planted both of my Kuhn 607-97's and all
three of my Kuhn 698-98's directly into the ground. I also planted all 4 of
my Sunflower seeds that Pumpkin Flower sent for her "contest" Well, on
Friday, June 4th, 1999 one of the 607's emerged from it's "mound". Talk
about relieved! I am still smiling. Ha. I guess I should have known that
this would be the seed to "perform" since it is a child of the Mombert 567.
I will be happy to "open" cross it with itself {was that worded correctly?}
if the other seeds are unable to work out for me. Our patch is very small at
only approximately 150 square feet, and will have a time maintaining just one
plant. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to train this puppy to grow?
We are hoping that we might be able to train the vine to go in a circle. Is
this possible? Also, we loved the tips on the compost piles being kept by
the main vine. We will surely have to do this with such a small patch. And
Pumpkin Flower, don't count me out yet. I am still hoping those sunflower
seeds will break ground! I just gotta win that oh so cute patch you made for
the winner so I can sew it on my jean jacket and wear it to the Half Moon Bay
weigh off this year. Ha. Thank you everyone for all your help you have
given. It is truly an exciting day in the pumpkin patch!
Sincerely,
Karri
