Friends:
Spoke to Frank Millican a couple of days ago and he reports excellent
progress in this season. He has a fantastic patch in his front yard with very
handsome plants and lots of fruit on the vine. Most of his fruits are at or
over the 300 pound mark.
Frank also has a couple of plants in an urban/industrial setting at work.
While these don't get quite the same care as his plants at home, he's having
remarkable success this year as a second year grower. Frank grows AGs near
Baton Rouge, LA.
With Tim Canniff ending his season at 494.5 and Frank over the 300 mark
already, my efforts this year are humble! All in good fun. My fruit is
struggling along at 218 total inches, or roughly 220 pounds. The fruit is
only gaining about 8 pounds weekly. I predict less next week.
I will probably pick soon and call it a season until fall. As soon as I do,
I'll weigh it off with the county Ag agents on hand. They are very good
sports to cooperate with me. Perhaps my pumpkin's integrity will be better
this year, and we won't have to worry about exploding pumpkins, radioactive
fallout and rotten pumpkin swill in our hair as we weigh off.
More later.
