I am a first year grower, and my patch is 8'x15' (A small patch
challenge, but the main vine will be allowed to venture onto my lawn).
My AG just hit the 2foot mark yesterday, with plenty of green leaves.
I mist daily with overhead sprinklers, and the main watering is with
fish emulsion every 3 days and supplementing with Miracle-Gro every
week. I have been following the label as to how much to fertilize.
Since my patch is so small, I have been able to really amend the soil
with a high percentage of composted manure. The plant has started
growing quite well.
The plant is healthy, but how hungry is an AG for additional
fertilizer? I am willing to bet I put half the amount of fertilizer as
other growers do.
Another question I have is about rabbits. Somebody in our neighbourhood
lost their pet rabbit, and this cute little creature has found a nice
home beside my lettuce and carrot patch. I love rabbits, and they are
adorable, but I fear for the cuddley creature's life if it decides to
touch my pumpkin plant. Do rabbits pose a problem for AGs?
Thanks all,
Rick
