I am a newbie with pumpkins, but one year I put a large tin can, bottom
removed in the middle of a hill for four Poinsett cucumber vines and
used 5 gals of water on it during the occasional days when I was home. I
canned several gallons of pickles off that one hill and I should have
watered every day. It was just below average garden soil without any
compost or mulch.
