I have never heard of this. Those male flowers are usually the first
flowers and are close to the base stem. You might have an unbalance of
nutrients. Sounds like you might be high in potash and not enough
potassium. The plant wants to produce the fruit rapidly. Try adding
more water and use a high potassium fertilizer.
