Any Guesses?

OK, here is a quick quiz:
 
I just talked to my mother and she was
telling me that a friend of ours from
Connecticut  (Pete M) was growing two AG
plants.....The plants were given to him by a
generous fellow who carved his pumpkin
into a boat last year and rode (or rowed) it
around the CT river.  Anybody care to take
a gander as to who this might be?  Alan
would you like to guess first?
