Beginner's questions

Marc,

290 sqft is not a large spot but yes you can one plant in this area. A
local grower grew a 703lb pumpkin last year in 170 sq ft. It is not too
late to add compost but be careful with the manure. If it is not composted
it may burn your plant. I know there are other on this list who may
disagree but that is my opinion. The local an myself both grow part of our
plant on the grass. Try to keep the trimmed between the vines and under the
leaves as the dew can promote disease on your plant.

I would suggest that you put 2-3 seedlings into your patch. Once they start
to grow over top ov each other cut back to one plant. Pick the plant that
seems to begrowing best in your opinion. Also sometimes a young vine will
snap, so having a second plant is a good backup.

You can grow in a compost pile, but I would recommend a balanced soil
mixture, again I am sure you will hear different opinions on this one.

Godd luck, I think you are about to have a fun summer.
