Re: Soil questions
Michael and Donald Chambers,
Michael, 1.5 ft down is pretty deep ...I think the main concentration of
roots are in the top 10 inches. Only if you have drainage problems would I
mess with the sub soil.........some dig an initial pit that is about that
deep or deeper but it is not a must. There are many growers that just
concentrate on the top foot. As the soil warms you PH should drop to 7.0
or 6.8...........I would add gypsum say 5-10 lbs to a 100
sqft.......nitrogen is something that leaches readily from the soil and you
should add some source on a consistant basis for the first couple of months
...set a fruit then add it again for a month or so...........
Donald Chambers
you can add sources that are just nitrogen say 13-0-0(blood meal) or Urea
0-0-46 and then add sources that are just potassium 0-0-20 or you can go
with a consistant ....fish and kelp blend...3-1-2.... low doses everytime
you water.........
